Simple, Powerful Methods to Acquire Literacy

In today’s world, there is an increased number of children who are experiencing language arts difficulties in school. This may be, in part, a residual effect of the Covid-19 pandemic.  Students who spent several months of school learning virtually at home, may not have mastered many of the important skills necessary to achieve reading mastery.  For this reason, Keller Clinic is pleased to announce that we are now able to offer remedial reading instruction using the successful and well researched Orton-Gillingham Approach.

The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a multisensory, step-by-step approach to improve reading, writing, and spelling abilities when traditional methods of teaching have been unsuccessful with individuals, like those with dyslexia.  It focuses on instruction based on the learning needs of the individual student. Orton-Gillingham teachers design lessons using materials that meet students of any age at their current level and pace their instruction keeping in mind each student’s particular strengths and weaknesses. This approach provides an intervention to improve and develop abilities in phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary, spelling, writing, and reading comprehension. At a minimum, twice weekly, 1-hour long sessions are highly recommended to get the best results using this immersive learning approach.
